John D’Agostino
When you are the youngest in a group you tend to stick out. When that group is already noted for being the youngest hot new poker players around, you tend to stick out even more. When John D’Agostino, whose only job before becoming a poker player was working in a doughnut shop, appeared on the World Poker Tour’s Young Guns of Poker, his good natured table talk and swift skill at cards gave people a reason to pay attention to this 22 year old besides his being the “youngest of the young.” He didn’t win the top spot n that event, and he doesn’t have any World Series of Poker championship bracelets gleaming golden on his wrist, yet this poker road warrior from Seymour, Connecticut is making a healthy living as a pro player. An example of one of the beauties of the poker lifestyle, John as pulled down hundreds of thousands of dollars without even winning an event.
His record includes 4th place at the 2005/06 World Poker Tour WPT Event Borgata Poker Open. Played at the Borgata Hotel this is John’s big win, grabbing $349,685. He placed 14th during the 2005 World Poker Tour at the Mirage Poker Showdown which paid him $27,000. Even placing 51st paid off, when it was in the 2004 World Series of Poker, during Event #9 No Limit Hold´em, where he was paid $2,700. The event that really caught the poker world’s attention was the 2004 World Poker Tour PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, which kicked him off with a 5th place finish and $99,450 at the tender age of 21.
Playing in high stakes game since 2003, John, or “Dags” as he is sometimes known around the felt, considers himself a Limit Hold’em specialist, but as he plays in all the major tournaments he works on his No Limit game as well.
